Today we had a Halloween themed day.

For Maths we did an addition flipchart on ActivInspire, which had a Halloween theme.

Then we read and saw a video of Rapunzel.

And again...we've learnt new things!

Today we've learnt how to use Mythware, an Intel facility that allows teacher to send files, chat to individual pupils, recieve files, do tests that get corrected automatically, and lots more. We have done a comprehension test. I don't do this for grading's sake, but for the sake of it being a reading exercise. The children love it, they love the quick response and the efficiency of the system.
I've also managed to silence a few pupils, which was quite funny too.
So now there are three ways by which we can send and recieve files. By box.net, by email and via the mythware. Each child will have her own file on my computer, and all their work will be stored there. I can correct the work and send it back to them, so they can see where they need to revise.

Kemm ktibtu sentenzi sbieh. Naf li kelli ngħinkom mhux ħażin fl-ortografija (spelling), imma ma jimpurtax, jekk tkomplu taqraw, titgħallmu tiktbu ħafna aħjar.

Wara għamilna daqxejn lezzjoni oħra fuq il-flus. Nispera li biż-żmien tidrawhom aħjar. Ħafna minnkom fehmuhom diġa'.
Sempliċi...kemm tiftakru li hemm 100 muniti tal-1ċ f'Ewro, 50 tat- 2ċ eċċ eċċ.

Wara kellna lezzjoni tal-Ingliż fuq 'This and That'. Mortu tajjeb ukoll. Tkellimtu ħafna bl-Ingliż. Tidhru li ħadtu gost.

Imbagħad kellna lezzjoni bl-ARTRAGE. Kollha pinġejtu stampi sbieħ tal-Ħarifa. Hawn hi tiegħi. Ara x'jidhrilkom. Tagħkom ħafna isbaħ, imma jekk inkompli niprattika, jirnexxieli nsir brava daqskom. :)

Ma naqsux waqt il-brejk il-logħob fuq siti li tħobbu intom (Barbie.com u xi oħrajn), u rajna żewġ episodji qosra ta' Tom and Jerry. Kemm dħaqna hux!

Whirlwind Week.

It's been a great week. There's so much we've learnt!

This week we've learnt how to send emails, download files, take photos, draw posters using artrage and most importantly, how to save our work.

Today we used new software called 2Simple, with Miss Tanya. It's just awesome.

Start - All programmes - 2Simple Software - 2 Publish+ - 2 Publish+ again.
Use the postcard. Flip the postcard. Click on the camera. Take a photo. Flip again. Write about the photo. Click on the arrow at the bottom of the screen. Right Click the stamp. Choose a photo from your capture folder. SAVE YOUR WORK.

What we did today :)

Today we did the English alphabet lesson, it was fun seeing the children browsing through their wordlists and getting the words for each letter. They did really well. Then I proceeded to the 'a' or 'an' lesson. I sent them a link on their emails, where they could download a flipchart Miss Tanya, our IT support, did for us.
Always remember to download only from 'safe' people (like your teacher).
Always remember the location you are saving this file. I told them to save on 'My Documents'.
Children had to close the e-mail program and open ActivInspire. Then they go File - Open - My Documents - A or An.
At first I thought it didn't work, but they need to give time for the classmate to load the flipchart. It should work fine.
Earlier in the day, we also did a lesson on Nazareth, and another lesson on Pairs of ten, for which they have this wonderful game to play.

It was a good day, the children are motivated with our technology and are learning fast. I'm enjoying it too, and I really hope that you do as well.

A Video we watched today.

Today we learnt about Nazareth. We saw it on Google Earth (download it) and we saw this video, about the Church of Our Lady.

Children's email.

I had planned to give them their email details yesterday, but I didn't manage. So on Monday, first thing, they'll get them. I will print out login cards with passwords, for them to keep safe.

Before I start, here's a good site for you parents. You can look up different flipcharts and download them, to be used as revision by your children. You have to register of course.

What we did today : How to do a simple flipchart.

1) Take a photo using your webcam.

2) Open ActivInspire

3) Insert - Media -  Documents - Webcam media - Capture

4) Click on your desired photo

5) The photo is now inserted in your flipchart. Click on it. You can drag one of the circles on the corner to adjust the size.

6) Click on the big T, and type away! Play around with your buttons and add shapes, change colours and fonts.

7) Send your work to your teacher the next day (we'll use mythware for this)

8) Coolness!

The Big Cat books.



As from today, your child will have a Big Cat book in his/her school bag. Make sure you read it together. Let the child read, and when they meet a word they can't manage, read it for them. This is important so as the flow of the story is not disturbed. Children need to enjoy reading. I have given them a book that's within their reading abilities. Thanks a lot.

Today we started the o' clock and half past. They have some easy homework on the Maths 3 copybook. This will get harder and harder each day, but we take it slowly, to make sure everybody understands.

In the meantime, this is a very good game for you.

A new year...

How to make a Christmas wreath you can eat.

You need...

3 cups of marshmallows (those small ones you put on your hot chocolate)

One cup of margarine.

Some vanilla essence and green food colouring.

Four cups of cornflakes.

Method : Put the butter in the microwave for one minute on LOW.

add the marshmallows, stir. Put in for one minute again on LOW. Stir.

Put in microwave for one minute on LOW and stir again.

...Stir until it all comes creamy... (the marshmallows have melted and mixed with the margarine).

Add a few drops of food colouring and vanilla essence.

Add the cornflakes, stir gently, until all cornflakes are covered in green goo.

Now shape portions of cornflakes into circles.

Decorate with colourful sweets.

The Christmas Story.

Today in class we started talking about the Christmas story. Soon we'll have to do writing in English and Maltese, as well as writing letters and Christmas cards.

This is a poem written by A.A. Milne, as part of the book 'Now we are Six'. A.A. Milne is the famous author of the 'Winnie the Pooh' books.

He was a dedicated author and father, and he wrote the stories to entertain his son, Christopher Robin.

Extra Work.

I have a lot of work cards in my class that the pupils can do as extra work. If your child wants to do these work cards (most of them do) please give them an extra copybook, and cover it in any colour you want (as long as it's not a colour we are already using).

More workcards done, more points!

And...extra work is done for pleasure and satisfaction, not as a punishment :)
