Pirate Adventures : Julian

Last week I asked the class to look up some information about any country. Julian is half-Russian so he took this project to heart, he got photos, printed information and told me a lot of things I didn't know about Russia. Since we're still in Pirate mode in class, we had to write a letter from one Pirate to another or write a story, telling about our adventures in the country we were in. We also have this in Unit 11 of our English language book, Way Ahead, different countries, habitats and places people come from. Children took different approaches to this. Some wrote, some typed. 

Here is Julian's work, all done in class. I edited his photos so he could use them in his little story. 

I will upload more as I get to correct the work.

This week we had a story about 'Owl in the House', so as a treat, I surprised the class with this lovely lesson. As soon as they came in from PSD, they saw on each desk, a plate with their ingredients ready. It was breaktime, so it was perfect time to make a healthy snack. Here's what we did. I'm sure many of you are making them again this weekend. Enjoy!

Halloween Activities 2014

What a full week we had! Making the hats in preparation for learning about solid shapes, reading from Winnie the Witch books series, writing about witches, reading Rapunzel, writing 'WANTED' posters for the Evil Witch, learning new words, and closing the week with a healthy version of a Halloween party, making toast and popping corn! All in the name of fun!

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Winnie the Witch

Winnie the Witch is an award winning book series written by Valerie Thomas and illustrated by Korky Paul, published by Oxford University Press. The books are funny and the illustrations have loads and loads of hidden treats for keen eyes. 

We are super lucky to have this set in our class. 

We've already read three of them. They gave us a couple of hours of fun, giggles, happiness and rainbows. We're also learning how to do spells, changing cats from black to green, making the moon super-big and changing the colours inside the house.

September 2014 - Welcome to my Class.

Jelly and loom band bracelets.

This week we revised capacity (that's litres and millilitres). So we made some jelly in class. Miss Claudine deals with the hot water while the children deal with the cold water and the measures. 

Here is a picture of sweetie chef Ema, with assitant Sven. The only photo I managed to take. 

I wanted to take more photos of the children enjoying their cold treat, but I couldn't as the class was super packed with children from other classes. I wanted to do some more activities, but the crowding and the high temperature made it impossible. 

Well, tomorrow is the last day. 

Children are allowed to wear all the loom bands they want, they're allowed to bring their elastics and they're allowed to make friendship bracelets for each other. 

I hope that the last day will be a fun one!

The Times Tables.

I've said this around three times this year. I cannot stress enough the importance of the children knowing the times tables well. Knowing them by heart is good, but they need to remember how to get the result, even if they blank out. 

These are the tables they have in year 3. 

I will print them and will kindly ask you to laminate the sheet for your children, so they can study them every day, until they are with me in year 3.

Healthy Breakfast Every Morning

Please make sure that your child has breakfast every morning before school. I cannot have children losing concentration because they need to eat at nine o' clock. This is happening with many children, every day. 

Even a slice of fruit, half a sandwich, half a cereal bar...

The internet is full of breakfast ideas. Food is anything but boring. Start the day off with something that wakes you up and gives you energy.

Pirates 2 - Shipbuilding and Story Making - slideshows

Today we put all our work up on the board and we built our ship. If you need any ships built, come to room 66 at Birkirkara Primary and we'll be of good service. We wrote a story about Pirate Jenny, we did some past tense in Maltese. We also had a surprise visit from a friend of Miss Claudine. It was a great day :) Tomorrow do not forget, we'll have more activities, and we're going to make toast. Bring sliced bread, and put some ham, cheese, tuna or whatever you like in your lunch box. I am very sorry, I didn't manage to include everybody in the photos...my hands were dirty most of the time and I couldn't handle the camera when I really wanted to!

I promise to take more photos tomorrow :) Today we finished our treasure maps, we wrote instructions on how to find the treasure, we made a wanted poster, we painted our ship, we revised the doubles (and the hard ones, and learnt how grown ups do doubles too), we painted a very large map! Our Class has a very generous guardian angel.

A while ago, I posted a wishlist on a 'thank a teacher' type of page. 
Someone saw what we do in our class on this blog, and decided to grant me my wish. I think I was granted more than what I wished for. 
Every year, I do a lot of lessons on Space. We have Space week, where we'll research, write and learn about anything that's above our sky.

Whales

Whales are very big they eat allot of sea creatures. They eat allot because they have an enormous stomach and a huge mouth. They also have sharp teeth to kill sea creatures and eat it. Whales get there babies in March,April or May. I don't like whales so much.

About tigers

Tigers are the largest of the big cats, with huge heads and growing 2.5m long.The long tail adds almost another metre.Tigers are instantly recognizable by their stripes.But in the forest areas of southern Asia where they live,their black stripes on a gold background act as camouflage.Their chins and stomachs are white.Tigers prey on large animals such as deer,buffalo,antelopes and wild pigs, hunting mainly at night. But it takes a tiger a lot of effort to make a kill;nine out of ten times, the victim will actaly make a getaway.
