How to make a Christmas wreath you can eat.

You need...

3 cups of marshmallows (those small ones you put on your hot chocolate)



One cup of margarine.

Some vanilla essence and green food colouring.

Four cups of cornflakes.

Method : Put the butter in the microwave for one minute on LOW.
add the marshmallows, stir. Put in for one minute again on LOW. Stir.
Put in microwave for one minute on LOW and stir again.

...Stir until it all comes creamy... (the marshmallows have melted and mixed with the margarine).

Add a few drops of food colouring and vanilla essence.

Add the cornflakes, stir gently, until all cornflakes are covered in green goo.

Now shape portions of cornflakes into circles.

Decorate with colourful sweets.

The Christmas Story.

Today in class we started talking about the Christmas story. Soon we'll have to do writing in English and Maltese, as well as writing letters and Christmas cards.

Healthy Eating Competition.


The College has organised a drawing competition for all children from years 1 to 3. Each child will draw a picture of Healthy food and another of Unhealthy food.
Children have started this at school. Please finish it for homework. Thanks.

Extra Work.


I have a lot of work cards in my class that the pupils can do as extra work. If your child wants to do these work cards (most of them do) please give them an extra copybook, and cover it in any colour you want (as long as it's not a colour we are already using).
More workcards done, more points!

And...extra work is done for pleasure and satisfaction, not as a punishment :)

 English Comprehension : David's Holiday.

I got the children to underline all the answers from the passage...but they are not numbered, so they will have to use their heads a bit. I wanted to help them a little, since this is a 'harder' comprehension.

Maths Sums.
I only just started these, and I gave only a few sums, because they are quite hard. 

8 + 6 =

Then add whatever is left to make 6

Children are given 2 numbers.

They have to arrange them smallest first.

Then they have to find an ODD number that goes between these two numbers.

You can choose 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 ... any one of these.

On page 24, you have to arrange the smaller number first, and the larger number on the last fish. Then do the same as page 23.

Sports Day Tomorrow.


Our Year three children will take part in the St.Theresa College Sports day, at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

Please send them with the winter P.E kit, but with the summer top underneath.

Make sure that all uniform pieces are  marked with your child's name and surname.

No satchel.

Small bag with lunch, water, fruit, cereal and the pencil case too.

Here is a good explaination for solid shapes. Solid shapes are not just a Maths thing, they are everywhere around us. Would be good if children learn now to find them in their every day life.

Homework

Is on Maths 1.

Children have to write the shape of the object described.

For example

What shape is a clown's hat? 
Answer : A cone.

They Also have a handout called 'Hiding'. They have to work out Ex 1 and 2 on the English Comp copybook.
For exercise 1, they have to fill in with a word from the passage. For exercise 2 they have to copy only the 'true' (good) sentences.

Some children have the book called 'Jolly Hungry Jack' or 'The Enormous Turnip' for reading in their bags. They are to bring the book with them tomorrow.

The homework

We've got a handout, where we have to compare stuff (and people) in the house to our one metre length. Then we have to write 'longer' or 'shorter' on the handout.

Today's Homework.

Children have study list 4 in their English Study copybook. Please study this a little bit every day, that's how you get the best results.


On the Maths squares copybook, they have to draw lines according to the measurments given. This time the lines are vertical.

Children have to get a 1 metre length (not more, not less) of string or ribbon, to use for a measuring exercise.

Way Ahead Workbook, pages 16, 17, 18.

On their Maltese composition they have a few sentences, which they have to copy correctly on a neat piece of paper.

I have a copy of 'L-Aħħar Bidwi f'Wied il-Għasel' on my drive, sung by the children. They will do a performance in front of teachers who are visiting our school for the Comenius project. If you want a copy of this recording, please send the pen-drive to school, so your child can practise over the weekend. Many thanks.

Dan mhux għat-tfal biss, jekk tridu tkunu tafu xi ħaġa intom ... ibgħatu kumment jew email u jkollna artiklu fuq x' niddiskutu hawn. Ġietni idea wkoll fuq l-ewwel lezzjoni tat-tisjir li nagħmlu. Dan inħobb nagħmlu meta jkolli l-lezzjoni tat-tisjir jew dwar l-ikel tajjeb għas-saħħa. Jekk tixtiequ lit-tfal jitgħallmu xi tisjir ġdid (eż : ikel Malti, insalata tal-frott, smoothies u milkshakes eċċ)... għiduli.

Abacus Textbook : Page 3. Do not draw the pictures, just write the sums on Copybook 1.

Għada ser nagħmlu il-fruit break, nispera li nara aktar tfal bil-frott fil-basket. Jistgħu jġibu jowgart (mhux minn dawk tal-ismarties jew mimlijin zokkor). Min iġib frotta/ħaxix/jowgart ser jieħu stilla fuq iċ-ċart tal-frott.

Today is Wednesday.



So, as always, we don't give homework. I hope you go for a nice walk, a nice drive, spend time with your parents and loved ones. Maybe kick a ball or ride a bike. Fly a kite or walk your dog.

Tomorrow we have dictation. Most of you are prepared. Do spend a few minutes going over the List 1, which is on the English Study Copybook.

Also, tomorrow we are having A Healthy Breakfast, so please come to school smart in your uniform. Thankyou :)

Maths : Counting Back.

Today we had some activity in the classroom.
Each group was given a 'whiteboard', a marker, a dice, and a set of cards showing from 10-20.

Each member of the group had to turn over one card, write the number on the whiteboard.

Then they roll the dice, and they minus that number from the big one.

Then we take out fingers showing the amount shown on the dice, and we count back from the big number.

ex 16 - 9 = 7
( 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7)

For homework they have some counting back sums.

Here is the cartoon we watched in class. We have the work on the My Stories Project Book. For homework, you have to draw the picture of the monster, or something from the story on the My Stories project book. Don't worry if your drawing is not too good, mine are not that good either :)

Please refer to this blog post. Today we had some money practise in class. Children need to know how to convert a euro into fifty cent coins etc....do let them play with the small change in your purse, it will help them no end.

Nouns.

Today we did a small lesson on nouns, the first of many on nouns.

Children have homework on the English Language Copybook.

My Stories Homework.

Today we read a book called 'Try Again Emma'.

Then we wrote a story on our 'My stories' project book.

For homework, children have to draw a poster for a toy shop on the coloured page.

Social Studies homework - Id-Dinja Tiegħi.

1) Homework is for MONDAY 19 TH OCTOBER.

2) Children have to fill in their answers on the Project Book and stick pictures according to their answers.

e.g :  Annimal Favorit : tigra (stick picture of tiger)

For those who haven't yet covered the Project Book, please cover in brown paper and stick a picture that relates to environment, yourself, play, Birkirkara etc...

Handwriting practise.




I found a good site that will enable you to print worksheets which will help your child to write in cursive writing.


The yellow dot on each worksheet will show you where the letter should start.

Choose the letters you want to practise, then click 'Make worksheet'. You will see the worksheet in a few seconds.

File > Print :)

Here is a handout to practise the letter k.

Otto's Family.

I've given the children four sheets of paper which are going to become our first book.

They are to stick the pages from 'Otto's Family' onto these pages, according to the page numbers.

Title page (no pictures, just writing and drawing)

Page 1 : Father

Page 2 : Mother

Page 3 : Brother

Page 4 : Sister

Page 5 : Grandma

Page 6: Grandpa.


We will write on these books accordingly during our English writing sessions.

They have all the notes on the Maths study copybook. They have to study also how many coins (10c, 5c, 2c, 1c) make up a 50 euro cent coin.
